It’s become clear over the past few years: Lacrosse in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) runs through Towson.

Towson men’s and women’s lacrosse teams both took home CAA championships over the weekend and earned automatic bids to their respective NCAA Tournaments.

The CAA regular season champion men’s team took the tournament title by virtue of its 4-2 win on Saturday over second-seeded Fairfield. The win capped off a dominant league season for the Tiger men. Not only did they take home the regular season and tournament titles, they were awarded several individual honors.

Junior attackman Ryan Drenner was voted as Co-CAA Player of the Year, while Head Coach Shawn Nadelen was named CAA Coach of the Year. Drenner and juniors Jack Adams and Tyler Mayes also earned All-CAA first team honors.

With the win, the No. 10 ranked Tigers will host Hobart College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Unitas Stadium in a First Four game of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The winner of Wednesday’s game will head to Colorado to take on second-seeded Denver on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Towson women’s lacrosse team punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament in Philadelphia with a 14-6 drubbing of top-seeded James Madison.

With the win, the Tigers picked up their fourth CAA title in the last five years, and seventh overall. This caps off a 15-3 year for Towson, which saw freshman Natalie Sulmonte named CAA Lacrosse Rookie of the Year.

Sophomores Kaitlyn Motalbano and Tianna Wallpher were each named first team All-CAA honorees, while senior Breanna Hamm was named the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

With the win Towson will play its first round game against Old Dominion on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers will host the first and second round at Unitas Stadium. The quadrant will also feature No. 7 Penn facing Wagner at 3 p.m. on Friday. The second round takes place on Sunday at 12 p.m.
