Towson football pulls out all the stops for military appreciation game

Tigers were proud to host military groups during Nov. 5 game against Elon.

Towson University's Department of Athletics and the Towson Tigers football team were happy to host its annual Military Appreciation Game on Nov. 5. Before the game, TU was honored to have members of the Maryland National Guard participate in the coin toss.

This past weekend, Towson University’s Department of Athletics and the Towson University football team were proud to host their annual military appreciation game.

Veterans who attended the game received four complimentary tickets. There was also a ceremonial coin toss before the game featuring members the Maryland National Guard.

TU was also proud to host a Military Village inside Unitas Stadium. Among some of the representatives were the Baltimore Station, Maryland National Guard, the Maryland 9/11 Rolling Memorial and the Veteran Housing Organization.

And while the 23-6 win was the main event, Towson University staff, coaches and athletes did their best to pay respect to our armed forced throughout the week.

On Monday, Oct. 31, members of the football team visited the grave of former TU football player Wardell Turner to place a wreath was placed on his gravesite. The same day, LTC Jody Shouse was presented with a helmet and a football.

Turner, who was killed in the line of duty in 2014, was a four-year letter winner for the Tiger football team and graduated in 1989 with a degree in management. A special luncheon and reception was held for friends and family prior to the game.

Also during Saturday’s game, members of the Towson University family visited Arlington National Cemetery, the Maryland National Guard and Presidential Salute Battery.
