Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Sculpture
Start August 2013. Teach 5, 4-contact hour courses per academic year (with reduced course load for the first three years) at undergraduate and graduate levels
as assigned, manage a large sculpture facility, and oversee adjunct faculty in the area. Participate in coordinating the sculpture area with regard to budget, procurement, curriculum, and scheduling. Collaborate on the development of new courses and content for an expanding sculpture program.
Ten-month appointment with start date of August 2013.
Qualified applicants will hold an MFA and demonstrate experience in supervising facilities and students in a sculpture studio. Substantial teaching beyond the graduate teaching assistant level is preferred.
Candidates will have a vision of sculpture in the 21st century stemming from a broad multidisciplinary practice, as applied to art and design—including digital design and fabrication—and demonstrated by an
active exhibition record. Candidates must be interested and conversant in interdisciplinary work and collaborating across disciplines within the department, college, and university. Qualified applicants will be well grounded in contemporary sculptural discourse with an understanding of historical and contemporary material philosophy and design practices. Candidates must have both demonstrated expertise and the
ability to coordinate courses in an array of traditional sculptural processes including wood working, metal fabrication, and mold making. Applicants must show evidence of professional accomplishment, a strong
commitment to creative activity, teaching excellence, and service.
The 3D facilities consist of well-equipped sculpture, metals, and ceramics studios. Other departmental resources include a comprehensive digital fabrication and rapid technologies lab, a healthy MFA program,
and two galleries.
