Assistant Professor: Literacy Instruction

The Department of Elementary Education invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position.

Position:
The position includes teaching courses in the area of elementary literacy in a teacher preparation program (grades 1 through 6) at the undergraduate level. Candidates will teach three courses each semester in the first three years of the tenure-track. Course assignments will include required courses in literacy foundations, literacy instruction, literacy materials, and literacy assessment. Candidates may teach courses off-campus in a Professional Development School setting and/or supervise interns. Additional responsibilities will include advising undergraduate students, engaging in scholarly activities, and participating in internal and external service activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have an earned terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Elementary Education, Teacher Education, Literacy Education or a closely related field; 3 years successful classroom teaching experiences in grades 1 through 6; excellent communication and human relations skills; demonstrated proficiency with educational technology; and evidence of scholarly accomplishments and potential. ABDs may apply if all requirements for the degree will be completed within six months of starting the position. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
Desired qualifications include more than three years of teaching experiences in grades 1-6 in public schools in the United States; experiences with grant writing; previous experiences interacting with communities of color; supervisory experiences with pre-service teacher candidates.
