The Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to teach courses in the undergraduate program in Communication Studies with 350 majors.
Teaching load is 3/3 during the first three years, based on balance of assignments thereafter. Primary teaching is in organizational communication and quantitative research methods with additional expectations to teach honors or seminar courses in the new general education core. Scholarly research productivity and service to the department, college and university is expected. Instructor will serve as assistant director of Lambda Pi Eta.
Ten-month appointment with the possibility of additional summer compensation for teaching. Start date: August 2012. This position is contingent on funds being available at the time of hire.
Earned Ph.D. or ABD in the field of speech/communication studies (completion of all doctoral work required by February 1, 2012); demonstrated potential as a classroom teacher and current research productivity required. Strong level of knowledge in multiple research measures and theory as utilized in organizational communication. Experience with innovative classroom technology and/or on-line learning is a plus as is interest in interdisciplinary collaborations. Previous participation or coaching experience is desired either in speech or debate. Evidence or interest in securing external funding is preferred.
The Department offers a major in Communication Studies and a major in Mass Communication with tracks in Journalism and New Media, Advertising, and Strategic Public Relations and Integrated Communication. A master’s degree is offered in Communications Management. The department annually enrolls approximately 1,300 majors served by 28 full-time and 50 part-time faculty.
