Director of Choral Activities, Assistant/Associate Professor

Position:
Director of Choral Activities. Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure track. Choral conductor with excellent teaching and recruiting skills.
Duties:
Conduct, coordinate and administer Towson choral ensembles, both auditioned and non-auditioned. Additional duties, commensurate with qualifications, may include: ensembles, applied conducting, studio and/or classroom teaching. Regional recruiting of qualified students. Develop and sustain strong relationships with the local, regional and national choral community, through school visits, workshop presentations, and guest conducting. Engage in scholarship/creative activity and service. Function as a voice division member, including adjudicating incoming auditions and juries.
Appointment:
Ten-month appointment. Compensated summer teaching possible. Starting date: August 2012.
Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in music. Demonstrated success as a choral conductor, teacher, and recruiter. Willingness to work in team situations.

A completed digital dossier will include: a) letter of application; b) a curriculum vita; c) repertoire list (with dates) of conducted works. Materials that must be submitted by mail include: a) three letters of recommendation written within the past two years and sent by the recommender (one letter must be from a conductor); b) an official graduate transcript, c) one CD of works conducted and d) one DVD which includes one 10-15 minute rehearsal segment and one performance of a recent work or works you have conducted.

The Department of Music enrolls approximately 300 students served by 31 full-time and over 50 part-time faculty. This comprehensive music program offers a variety of concentrations in Bachelors and Masters degrees. The NASM accredited program is housed in the Center for the Arts. The Voice Division has approximately 100 majors served by 5 full-time and 9 part-time faculty. The Towson University choirs enjoy the support of an active student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
