The Department of Family Studies and Community Development is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2013. This new position is in response to department growth and the addition of a second major.

The Department of Family Studies and Community Development is a growing department that provides undergraduate academic preparation through two majors; family science and family and human services. In addition, the department offers the following graduate degrees: MS in Child Life, Administration and Family Collaboration, MA in Jewish Education, MA in Jewish Communal Service, PBC programs in Family Professional Collaboration, Jewish Communal Service and Jewish Education. The department emphasizes civic engagement and requires service- learning experiences in several courses. In the past five years the department programs have grown from 258 to 396 undergraduate and graduate students.

Position:

Applicants must possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses. These courses include: introduction to family studies, research methods in family studies, family relationships, theories of family functioning, services for children and youth and family and human services capstone: methods in family life education. The successful candidate must show a potential for a productive scholarly program and demonstrate a willingness to engage in service to the department and University. Salary will be competitive at entry level.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have earned a doctorate in Family Science/Family Studies, Social Work, or a related field with a focus on services for children and youth.
