The College of Education is seeking candidates with doctorates in a targeted educational discipline or closely allied field and at least three years teaching experience in a Pk-12 setting.
Assistant Professor in Secondary Education to teach courses in reading/literacy for students in grades 6 – 12 and in the assessment and remediation of reading challenges in middle and high-school students. Understanding and expertise in English/Language Arts; Pk-12 literacy, writing and disciplinary literacy is necessary.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, work closely with interns, teachers, and students integrating inquiry and practice in the context of professional development schools; collaborate with colleagues across the college and region and demonstrate knowledge of the Common Core Standards and instructional implications of PARCC assessments, and be current in educational technology and digital teaching and learning.
A doctorate in secondary literacy or a closely allied field and at least three years successful teaching experience in a Pk-12 setting, program of research related to understanding facilitators and impediments to effective literacy skills in secondary students, experience with urban schools is desirable, evidence of scholarly expertise in literacy acquisition, methods of teaching reading and writing, and new literacies.
