Desktop GIS Development and Customization
Desktop GIS applications allow users to display, query, update, and analyze data about geographic locations and the information linked to those locations. CGIS develops and customizes desktop GIS applications that offer tools for uniform organization and storage of geographic data, along with a full suite of display and analysis tools that help connect the “where” with the “what” of data—an especially useful toolkit for planners and other decision-makers. Here are a few examples.
- CGIS developed an inundation forecasting application that allows coastal planners to simulate levee breaks then predict flood levels and areas of inundation based on a variety of parameters.
- As part of the NASA and Raytheon Synergy project, CGIS developed MapViewer, a free GIS software package that enables casual users to view digital geospatial data. MapViewer provides fundamental GIS capabilities minus a steep learning curve and is designed to be customized to meet the unique needs of an organization.
