Statewide GIS Coordination
Towson University has served as a hub for GIS activities in Maryland by working with agencies at the state, regional, and local level, and through TUgis, the annual statewide GIS conference. CGIS serves as the technical GIS resource to the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee (MSGIC), Maryland’s all-volunteer GIS coordinating committee. Since 2000, CGIS has partnered with MSGIC on a series of United States Geological Survey/National Spatial Data Infrastructure Cooperative Agreement Program (USGS/NSDI) grant projects to coordinate development and delivery of geospatial resources in Maryland, the region, and nationally.
CGIS hosts many elements of Maryland’s spatial data infrastructure, including MD iMap.
CGIS developed the Emergency Management Mapping Application (EMMA©) in response to homeland security and emergency response needs at the state and local level.
CGIS is dedicated to making GIS technology accessible and relevant.
