Idioms - Exercise 13                 

Directions:  In each of the following sentences, a common expression--an idiom--can replace the word or phrase in parentheses.  In the blank below each sentence, write the idiom defined by the word or phrase in parentheses.  When you are finished, click  the "Check My Work" button at the bottom of the page to check your answers.  Choose from the following expressions:

calm down        do over        find out        keep off

keep out        look down on        get through        give away

give in        put away        take off        take turns

 

1. Steve's mother told him to (not walk across) the grass.
    

2. Laura (does not respect) opinions she does not agree with.
    

3.  At the bakery, samples of cake are (given for free) to attract customers.
    

4. Sarah and Roger (alternated) washing the dishes each night.
    

5.  My clothes were still stained, so the laundry had to be (done again).
    

6.  When did you (finish) reading that book?
    

7.  The sign on that door says we should (not enter).
