1.  Bertrand put the children into daycare, registered for classes, and spent a semester at the local community college.  This made him very happy.

2.  I spent all my cash on silly things, and then my credit card was stolen.  That was unfortunate.

3. Most laws in medieval times applied to the lender rather than to the borrower, which was surprising.

4.  The child rode his bicycle through the streets filled with traffic.  It  was dangerous.

5.  The corporation adopted a policy that banned smoking.  This annoyed many employees.

6.  Joe has always wanted to study about the many facets of the solar system, and this year he did it.

7.  Harrison was shocked when Marian broke off the engagement, which is what he deserved.

8.  Some students drop out of college because they have heard that blue collar jobs may offer a better chance to make more money.  This aggravates my math instructor.

9.  The country is overpopulated; this has led to widespread unemployment.

10. He admitted that he had been arrested for shoplifting, which surprised me.
