| Dr. David Vanko joins Geosciences Faculty |
Dr. Vanko, most recently chair of the Geology Department at Georgia State University,
joined us in August. He will serve as chair of the Department of Physics, Astronomy
and Geosciences at Towson. His research interests include the petrology and geochemistry
of ocean crust and applications of fluid inclusion studies to hydrothermal activity.
Dr. Vanko will teach mineralogy this fall.

| New Geochemistry Laboratory Up and Running |
|
Dr. Steven Lev has completed installation of a Geochemistry Lab in Room 475. Facilities
include space and equipment for sample preparation, analyses, as well as a clean lab space.
Several students have had the opportunity to take advantage of these new facilities. To

| Upper Level Geosciences Laboratory Added |
Smith 469, to the left of the infamous Geociences 473 lab, has been added as a new space for
upper level Geosciences labs. The petrographic microscopes have been moved in, and there's
much additional space for instruction, labwork, and student research.
