Science Education
at Towson University
Towson University is unique in that it is one of the few academic institutions to have a significant number of education faculty housed in the content departments. For example, Towson has education faculty in the Department of Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences, the Department of the Biological Sciences, the Department of Chemistry, and the Department of Mathematics.
The science education faculty in the Department of Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences are Dr. Cody Sandifer, Dr. Pamela Lottero-Perdue, Dr. Rommel Miranda, Dr. Reizelie Barreto-Espino, and Dr. Ronald Hermann. These faculty are responsible for teaching content and methods courses for early childhood, elementary, and secondary students, providing in-service professional development for teachers in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area, and conducting research on the teaching and learning of science. In addition, the Department of Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences has a full-time staff member, Ms. Karen Cimino, Internship Coordinator for Elementary Science Education, who also teaches methods courses for early childhood and elementary education majors.
