Placement Testing

Remote Testing

Towson University offers the ACCUPLACERŽ placement test on campus by appointment. If your commute is greater than 2 hours, you have an option to take the test at a college closer to you.  Please note that the earlier you comply with the testing policy, the more likely it is that you will get the best selection of classes.

1.

It is your responsibility to find and contact the testing center of a local college to find out if they test students from other institutions.  If they test students from other institutions, please identify yourself as a Towson University student who needs to complete ACCUPLACERŽ testing, inquire about the fee to use their facility, and the test administrator's contact information:

Test administrator's name
College or test center's name
Email address
Phone number

When sending this information to our email address, you must include your name, phone number, TU I.D. number and email address. Inform the test administrator at the college or learning center that the Academic Achievement Center (410-704-2291, placementtesting@towson.edu) will email him or her our ACCUPLACERŽ instruction within three days.

2. If you are unable to locate a college, please contact a local Sylvan Learning Center. It is important to inform the learning center that they will administer ACCUPLACERŽ  testing because our office will email instructions directly to the test administrator. If the Sylvan center states that they do not administer ACCUPLACERŽ , please ask the administrator to call 410-704-2291 or e-mail placementtesting@towson.edu.
3.  Please note that  you will not be able to take the online ACCUPLACERŽ test at another college or learning center until the test administrator receives our ACCUPLACERŽ instructions.

Do not contact the following institutions.  They do not test students from other colleges.

Adelphi University, Berkeley College, Hofstra University, Montgomery College (Germantown and Rockville campuses), Northern Virginia Community College, Onondaga Community College, Prince George's Community College, and UMUC.  Also, do not contact the Sylvan Learning Center located at 12 Alfred Street, Woburn, Ma.

4. Any charges for taking the ACCUPLACERŽ test at another college, or learning center, are your responsibility.
5. You must take the Remote Confirmation email to the testing location to give to the test administrator. Do not attend a testing appointment without the confirmation; it informs the administrator that you were given approval to test at their facility. Therefore, schedule the testing session after you have received your Remote Confirmation.
6. Be sure to identify yourself as a Towson University student or you may be accidentally administered the ACCUPLACER test for the host campus which may not include the same test batteries required by Towson University.
7. Be sure to have a photo I.D. for check-in purposes---you will not be allowed to test if you do not present this documentation.
8. Bring several pencils and/or pens.
9. If you are taking the mathematics placement test, do NOT bring a calculator. The calculator appears within the test when calculator use is appropriate.
10. Do NOT bring your own scrap paper; it will be provided for you and collected from you at the end of the test. If you were not given scrap paper when seated, ask for it.
11. Your test scores and placement results appear on the computer screen at the end of your testing session. Ask the test administrator to print the score report and give you a copy. No one at the local campus or test location will have access to your results once you are logged out of the test. Your results are specific to Towson University. If you did not receive a copy of your score report, please contact the Academic Achievement Center at 410-704-2291. You do not need to send us a copy of score results; we have access to the ACCUPLACERŽ score report.
12.

Read the Retest Policy to see if you qualify for retesting. If you qualify for a re-test, please inform Placement Testing by using our email address. Also, read the Test Score Information to get further explanation of your score results.
