Placement Testing

Test Score Information

After completion of placement testing, students may be required to register for one or more of the following courses based on the scores listed below.

Math 0-81 Elementary Algebra (DVMT101)
  82-108 Intermediate Algebra (MATH 102)
  109-120 No refresher work required.
Reading 0-79 Academic Literacy (REED102)
  80-120 No refresher work required.
     

 

Refresher Courses Description

Course Descriptions of Refresher Courses

The courses above are designed to improve your skills so that you can be successful and independent learner at Towson University. The courses that begin with "DV" carry credit toward your full-time status as a student, but will not count toward graduation. The other courses listed above are college-level courses that will earn you three units toward the 120 required for graduation. All refresher courses must be successfully completed within the first two semesters of your enrollment at Towson University.

MATH SECTION

DVMT101 requires the completion of both elementary and intermediate algebra topics and earns a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade. You will be given the opportunity to cover both levels in one semester. If only the elementary algebra level is completed, MATH 102 must also be completed.

Scheduling Explanation: This course should not be scheduled concurrently with any other math course and must be successfully completed before taking a general education or major math requirement..

MATH 102 requires the completion of intermediate algebra topics only and earns a satisfactory/ unsatisfactory grade. If your major requires statistics, Math 109 may be an option.

Scheduling Explanation: This course must be completed before taking a general education or major math requirement, and should not be scheduled concurrently with any other math course.  Complete math requirements for graduation vary according to major.  Please view the catalog to determine which additional math course(s) will be necessary.

Reading SECTION

REED 102 is a college-level reading proficiency course designed to help you be more efficient in heavy reading courses.
