Course Descriptions of Refresher Courses

The courses above are designed to improve your skills so that you can be a successful and independent learner at Towson University. The courses that begin with "DV" carry credit toward your full-time status as a student, but will not count toward graduation. The other courses listed above are college-level courses that will earn you three units toward the 120 required for graduation. All refresher courses must be successfully completed within the first two semesters of your enrollment at Towson University.

DVMT101 requires the completion of both elementary and intermediate algebra topics and earns a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade. You will be given the opportunity to cover both levels in one semester. If only the elementary algebra level is completed, DVMT110 (Intermediate Algebra) must be completed separately.

Scheduling Procedure: This course must be completed at Towson University, should not be scheduled with any other math course, and must be successfully completed before taking a general education or major math requirement.

DVMT110 requires the completion of intermediate algebra topics only and earns a satisfactory/ unsatisfactory grade. If your major requires statistics, Math 109 may be an option. If your major does not require a specific math course, Math 103 may be an option.

Scheduling Procedure: This course must be completed before taking a general education or major math requirement, should not be scheduled with any other math course, and must be completed at Towson University.

DVRD101 is a reading comprehension course which earns a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade.

Scheduling Procedure: This course must be completed at Towson University and can be scheduled with other courses.

REED 102 is a college-level reading proficiency course designed to help you be more efficient in heavy reading courses. A grade of "D" or better must be earned in this course.

Scheduling Procedure: This course must be completed at Towson University and can be scheduled with other courses.

ENGL 102-Stretch is a writing course that has the same curriculum as ENGL 102 and special sections set aside for students with borderline scores of 2-7 on the writing skills portion of the placement test. These sections will provide diagnostic help in the classroom to identify weak areas so that these skills can be strengthened. Your adviser will know which sections of ENGL 102 are "stretch" and can assist you in registering for one of  those sections. A grade of "C" or better must be earned in this course.

Scheduling Procedure: This course must be completed at Towson University and can be scheduled with other courses.
