Deforestation is a process when a forest (mainly rainforests)
is cut or burned down for timber or agricultural land. Deforestation destroys
an important component
neccessary to combat global warming. When the rainforests of the world
are cut down, you destroy the trees and plants that eliminates carbon dioxide
that enters the atmosphere. Plants use carbon dioxide as energy in the
process called photosynthesis. As the trees asborb the carbon dioxide they
release oxygen which is necessary for the survival of the people in the
world. When the forests are cut down there is no remedy to reduce the carbon
in the atmosphere.
Deforestation
also puts carbon into the atmosphere. When the trees are burned or wood
is left to decay carbon dioxide is being released. It is calculated that
1 billion tons of carbon dioxide is being released each year due to deforestation.
