The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in Geosciences in the Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences Department beginning August 2015.
Ph.D. in a relevant area required. Postdoctoral experience preferred. Possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and show potential for a productive research/scholarly program. Preference given to candidate with research and teaching interests in the areas of mineralogy, sedimentology and stratigraphy, shallow geophysics, solid earth geophysics, or hydrogeology. Candidates with background in climate change, engineering geology, or energy resources and whose interests overlap with the priorities already listed will also be considered.
Teach introductory and upper-level geology courses. Will have the opportunity to teach graduate-level environmental science courses. Support the geology program with the potential to interact with students in the interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs in environmental science and studies. Establish a productive research program, including seeking external funding to support research involving undergraduate and graduate students.
Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences:
The PAGS department (http://www.towson.edu/physics) includes four related disciplines: physics, astronomy, geosciences, and science education. PAGS is housed within the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics where research, particularly with undergraduates, is strongly supported by the Fisher Endowment. The PAGS department has twenty tenure/tenure-track faculty, including four tenure/tenure-track geologists along with two full-time geology lecturers. The Geology program has extensive teaching and research interactions with the large, and growing, Environmental Science and Studies undergraduate and graduate programs.
