The Division of Academic Affairs will host the annual January Conference for all faculty on January 13. 2016 in the Chesapeake Rooms of the University Union.
The theme for the 2016 January Conference is Re-envisioning the Core for Student Success.
This conference aims to initiate a campus-wide conversation and the sharing of information and ideas regarding the impact of the Core Curriculum on student success. More specifically, sessions will focus on themes related to engaging students to become lifelong learners through increasing interdisciplinary opportunities, making connections between the core and majors. The content of conversations throughout the day will help generate momentum for taking steps to re-envision the Core Curriculum.
Dr. Carol Christ is the Director of the Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of California, Berkeley. As a well-respected scholar of Victorian literature, Dr. Christ earned her Ph.D. from Yale University and began her academic career as a member of the Department of English at UC Berkeley. She then went on to serve as Chair of the Department of English, Dean of the Division of Humanities, Provost for the College of Letters and Science and as Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. She served as the President of Smith College from 2002-2013 before her return to UC Berkeley to serve as Director of the CSHE.
