Today I'd like to tell you a little bit about the policies and procedures for faculty for submitting the test to the testing services center. The testing center offers Proctor Test accommodations. Those accommodations include extended time, most of our students get 50 percent extended time, and some get 100 percent extended time. We offer reduced distraction spaces. Those are individual testing rooms. We offer computers. Many of our students get to use the word processor as an accommodation and we have a staff of trained readers and scribes. The students must assume many of the responsibilities for submitting the test to the test center. The first step is to give her the DSS memo to the professor which lists the approved testing accommodations. Secondly, for each test they're going to take in the test center they should submit a test accommodation request form to the professor. They may either hand carry this form, which would be submitted to the professor, three, or at least three days in advance of the test or they may wish to email the one line version of the form at least one week in advance of the test date. With either version of the form the student is required to make an appointment with the test center or on test day the student must arrive on time with a Federal ID. If the student does not follow these procedures in a timely manner, he or she is made aware that they may not have the opportunity to be accommodated. The faculty test responsibilities include, first verifying from the DSS memo that test accommodations are available to this particular student. We ask faculty to check their email regularly for students on line test accommodation requests. That request would come from "scheduling_system@towson.edu". Faculty are asked to review that email request, approve or disapprove of the request and then remember to click on the submit button so that the form is forwarded electronically to both the test center and the student. For the paper version of the test, student and faculty should confer to complete the form. We ask faculty to provide scantrons or blue books if they wish the student to use that during the test session. We ask faculty to submit tests to the test center at least 24 hours in advance of the test time. You may submit tests by sending them via email to "dsstesting@towson.edu" you may fax the test to 410-704-4699 and that fax machine is locked in my office overnight so we feel it's a secure place. Or you may wish to submit the test in person to a admin at 228. You may also use the interoffice mail to submit a test but this does take longer than most of us realize to get that mail across campus. When you complete the test accommodation request form also please indicate the standard amount of time that is going to be granted to the students taking the test in the classroom. We can calculate the students extended time if we have the standard amount of test time. Please note on the test accommodation request form any authorized aid such as a calculator, if you allow an open book or open notes during the test or chemistry tests may include a periodic table. The test center has their own responsibilities. When we receive a test they are recorded on the calendar and then secured. The students ID is reviewed on test day before he or she starts the test. The student is directed to sign in and store his possessions in an area outside of the testing area. The student is escorted to a testing space and then the student is proctored and then the test session is recorded to ensure academic integrity. On completion the test center staff will seal the test in an envelope and the test is delivered to the appropriate department by testing services center courier. The test is only left in the department if there is someone in the department to sign for it. We do not slip tests under doors or leave them in unattended areas. On request, faculty may pick up the test in the testing services center if they prefer and we ask that preference to be noted on the test accommodation request form. Please keep in mind the location of the testing center, it is located in the administration building, room 228. The testing services center can only accommodate students who are registered with disabilities support services and who are approved for testing accommodations. We cannot accommodation students who miss a test because of illness or personal business. The testing services center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and it's open Friday 8:00 to 1:30 PM. If your class meets outside of that time we hope you can negotiate with the student and reach an agreeable time either the afternoon before the test or the morning after. We encourage faculty and students to use the testing services center. It is a convenience for the faculty and an accommodation to the student and it also ensures that the students receive appropriate accommodations without imposing the instructors. We welcome you to contact the service center for any information. You may use the telephone, 410-704-2304. You may email the testing center at dsstesting@towson.edu. You may fax the testing center, 410-704-4699 or visit our website at "www.towson.edu/testing". Please contact the testing services staff with any questions you might have about the testing process. Thank you and I look forward to working with you and your students.
