Bio

Geoffrey Munro (B.A., Edinboro University of Pennsylvania; M.A. and Ph.D., Experimental Psychology, Kent State University), received graduate training in psychological research methodology with a focus on social psychology. Thus, he teaches psychology courses including introduction to psychology, behavioral statistics, research methods in psychology, social psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and graduate seminars in social psychology. Additionally, he occasionally teaches special topics courses on social psychological topics like persuasion and social influence.

Dr. Munro's research program focuses on motivated reasoning--how peoples' preferences affect the manner in which they process social information. He has investigated biases in the way that people think about favorable versus unfavorable medical diagnoses, positive versus negative personality feedback, scientific information that confirms or disconfirms one's belief in a group stereotype, and political information that supports or opposes one's political worldview. Journal articles based on these investigations have been published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Basic and Applied Social Psychology, and Teaching of Psychology.
