OUT List- QSU will be doing there second OUT List. It is completely voluntary and if you'd like to identify to the readers of the Towerlight let us know and we can put your name on it. For those of you who do not know what the OUT List is, it is basically just a part in the paper that list names of students, faculty, staff and Alumni, who are out and proud!! It is a great way to help promote the Queer community on campus and show that we are here and we are a strong presence on campus. For new comers, and people who are not out, on campus it is an empowering and makes them feel confident in who they are!! Attached is copy of the OUTlist from last year - reply to add your name.
Concessions – There is one this Saturday . If you can help, please sign up ASAP! Be at the Johnny Unitas Stadium at 11:30 am and let them know you are there to help the QSU Concession Stand and they will let you in and direct you where to go. Bring a friend!! It is a bunch of fun and a great way to meet others in the group! We still need people!! If you signed up and now realize you are unable to commit please let us to ASAP.
Panels – , RA Craig Donahue would greatly appreciate it your help for his panel at 7pm in Tower A! A panel will generally involve an open forum of questions for those who are seeking answers, whether it is to gain insight on the Queer community or just to listen to some ones experience.
Human Rights Campaign - The Office of LGBT Equity & The Provost's Conversations on Diversity is giving a speech on Minorities Within the GLBT Minority at UMD College Park on this Thursday from noon to 1:30, if any of you are interested. Here is a tidbit of their summary: Some 8.8 to 15 million gay, lesbian, bisexual andtransgender people live in the United States , yet as a political constituency they are nearly invisible. Of the research that does exist, the concerns of three important groups of this population - African Americans, Latinos, and Asian-Pacific Islanders - are rarely studied. This year the Human Rights Campaign launches a ground breaking research effort to talk with GLBT communities of color. This endeavor to learn more about their opinions, attitudes, and beliefs marks a pioneering effort to quantifiably study one of the most important constituencies today in American politics.
LGBT Student Development – Sadly, Samuel Santos, our Director of LGBT Student Development officially resigned on Friday. Samuel has done a fabulous job starting Towson off right and we are confident the the program will continue. Also, there will continue to be a close connection between QSU and the Center for Student Diversity.
