Meeting called to order at 6.06p.

We began by going around the room and sharing our name and favorite Thanksgiving food.  Lots of pie-lovers amongst us!

Our first item of business was announcing our two new Executive Board positions:  Theresa Macheski, who will serve as Vice President, and Danielle White, who is our new Event Coordinator.  After they were applauded, both Theresa and Danielle thanked the group and noted that they were excited to be in their new positions.  Danielle also stated that she had several events planned that she would share with us soon.

Next was the announcement of the Social Justice/Activism Co-Chairs, Stephanie Reed and Alex Shinko.  Although Alex was unable to attend the meeting, Stephanie was present, and she shared her enthusiasm to be in this new role.  Both Stephanie and Alex are veteran members of QSU and we look forward to benefiting from their social activism expertise.

Following this, Lauren drew our attention to the fact that with these new additions, our organization’s leadership, particularly the Executive Board, is comprised of even more white-identified individuals than before.  Lauren noted that the Executive Board is committed to addressing this issue by building bridges with other groups on campus in order to emphasize our commitment to all types of diversity.

Creating Change applications are due by tomorrow, Wed., 28 Nov., at 5p.  The applications are attached to these minutes.  Briefly, QSU will pay travel, lodging, and registration for four QSU members to attend this national conference in Detroit next February.  For more information about Creating Change, visit www.creatingchange.org.

Danielle, our new Event Coordinator, announced the “What Is Queer?” Campaign.  This social marketing campaign involves taking pictures of queer individuals in an effort to identify our organizational definition of “queer.”  Danielle will work with three photographers to take pictures of individuals such as a lesbian couple, a gay couple, a faculty/staff group shot, etc.  The aim is to have participants identified prior to the winter break.  The pictures will be taken during the break so that the pictures can be manufactured by the beginning of the winter term.  The pictures will be posted in heavily-trafficked areas across our campus.  If anyone is interested in being involved with this project or has questions about it, please contact Danielle, dwhite5@towson.edu

Tina, a senior here at Towson, distributed an anonymous survey involving LGBT identities for her Research Methods course.

An announcement was made about the Clothing Swap which concluded just a few hours after our meeting.

An additional announcement was made by our advisor Chris Bell, a congratulations to me for being featured in an article for the Towerlight.  Be sure to pick up a copy and read all about it!!

We adjourned at 6.20p.  Our meeting was intentionally short in an effort to encourage individuals to attend Safe Space and then the Transgender Day of Remembrance commemoration.
