Our Icebreaker was the sentence game where each person had to say only one word (after repeating all the words said before) and make a sentence… ours was about a big toe and the infections that it had…

First… Dessert Potluck and Bingo is tonight! It was a very successful event with lots of winners and just as many prizes, all of which were super!

Director Update

• Santiago Solis and Paz Galupo came to talk to us about the Director for LGBT Student Development update. They had had hoped to announce who the Director was this evening, but due to technicalities will not be able to officially announce until tomorrow. Theresa will send out a follow up e-mail with who is the LGBT Student Development Director.

Drag Show Update:

• The exec board played an April Fool's joke saying that a group on campus was petitioning to stop QSU from having our drag show.
• This was a joke that offended some people, which was not the intent at all. The exec board recognizes where they went wrong and will publicly apologize to QSU next week
• After this joke, it was announced that Caroline V. and Elizabeth H. have been chosen to be Co-Chairs of the Drag Show committee. So don't worry everyone the drag show is still on!!

Love Makes a Family:

• Please stop by the Center for Student Diversity in the third floor of the Union and check the new exhibit!
• Love Makes a Family features LGBT families! There are pictures, stories, and quotes posted everywhere.
• When you go please sign in! Numbers are important so we can bring more LGBT exhibits to campus! So bring your friends and check out the awesome layout!
• Santiago Solis would like to extend gratitude to anyone who stops by because he spent his birthday weekend setting it up for the students to enjoy…thank you! All because he believes it is an awesome exhibit and will create a safer environment on campus, and hopefully off campus, for us and future Towson Students!
• There will be a grand opening on April 7^th at 5pm in the Center for Student Diversity. This gives a chance for people to see the exhibit. There will be a panel of LGBT families available to talk about their issues and concerns.

Destination Towson:

• April 4^th @ 11:30 – 2pm on the 2^nd floor of the Union
• We currently do not need volunteers. Thank you everyone who signed up at the meeting!
• Destination Towson is an event designed to bring in more people to your organization. Each organization will have a table and it is up to them to get new members.
• The reason we need volunteers is to show support to our prospective members as well as help out with our "Gaypordy" game. Our tactic will be to entice people with cupcakes and other baked goods, have them choose a category then they get a cupcake if they try to answer the question!
• If you are interested in baking for the event e-mail the gmail account or simply show up with goodies!

Concessions!

• When: This Saturday the 5^th @ 10am – 3:30pm
• Where: Johnny Unitas Stadium
• Concessions are a really fun time and a great opportunity to fundraise for  QSU!! If you are interested in working (even an hour!) e-mail the gmail account and let us know when you will be available.

Salad Bowl Forum

• April 9^th @ 6 in Chesapeake III
• A panel with representatives from all kinds of backgrounds. An opportunity to ask questions and become more aware of other cultures on campus and possibly yourself!

Beyond Beats and Rhymes

• April 9^th @ 7:30pm in Linthicum 100
• A documentary will be shown called "Beyond Beats and Rhymes" which talks about misogamy, gender discrimination, and other issues, all of which are expressed through hip hop music.

Sex Fiesta

• April 9^th @ 8pm in Newell
• There will be lots of information and tables for you to check out. Stop by! Yours truly will be there!

LGBT Student Development Announcements

·        April 14^th- LGBTQIA Spiritually Queer Religious Panel  6pm Susquehanna Terrace

-This event will consist of religious leaders of Jewish, Christian, and hopefully Muslim religion discussing LGBT issues within religion and helping individuals find acceptance within places of worship. They will help discuss ways to counteract exclusion of LGBT individuals within religion. There will be panelists who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Allies.

·        April 15^th    6:45 pm UU 313- On My Skin – Documentary about the intersections of race/class/gender. Follows a multiracial Transman and his struggles with intersecting both identities.

·        April 18^th  12:30pm UU 313- Speaker Amy Andre- Creator of the film,  On My Skin, coming in to talk about the Political and Social intersections of race/class/gender/ and sexual orientation.

Next weeks meeting will be half business (because a lot of stuff happens in April) and half fun. We will be participating in a simulation, if you so choose to, that is part of the privilege awareness movement. The whole idea is to take a step out of the norm and look at situations from a different point of view, but it is all hands on! A representative from the counseling center  will also be leading a discussion after the event. I was also advised to give a disclaimer saying that the journey can be emotional and if anyone wants to stop half way through it they are more than welcome to do so. Below is a brief description of the event.

Sim City • Fundamental

This interactive session will engage participants in an exercise where they are assigned roles in a simulated "city" and are given varying degrees of privilege in accordance with their assigned group. Their challenge is to build settlements in their section of the "city" with the resources they are given. Our goal is to highlight the intersection of identities within the LGBTQ community and look at the complexity of oppression through an interactive, experiential lens.
