President's Diversity Award for Academic Department
The department of Dance, under the leadership of Chairperson, Dr. Susan Haigler, has embraced best practices to further their commitment to Towson's diversity initiative. The presence of diverse faculty and staff is a visual reminder to students that diversity is to be embraced. Dance's curricula and instruction has moved from the traditional technical on BFA program to an advocate for "Dancing for a Lifetime." Bringing such works as "Continuous Replay," " Witness," "The Grandmother Project," and "Heaven in View: Narratives of Women living with HIV," embodies democracy, acts of humanity, reflections and memories of loved ones, and movement workshops helping to express concerns and emotions through movement.
Collaboration with Chinquapin Middle School has enabled the Dance Education methods' class to teach 6th grade boys science. While the Dance Education and Policy class emphasized empowerment to 7th grade girls this past semester.
