Graduation with Latin Honors

Effective May 2009

Effective with the May 2009 graduating class, the following latin Honors policy will be implemented:

  • Eligibility for Latin Honors will be based on students' performance in the final 60 units earned at Towson University.  That calculated grade point average will include the entire term in which the total of 60 units was attained.  At least 45 of these 60 units must have calculable grades.

  • Summa Cum Laude honors will be awarded by college to students with a calculated grade point average equal to the highest 2% of the graduating class.

  • Magna Cum Laude honors will be awarded by college to students with a calculated grade point average equal to the next highest 3%.

  • Cum Laude honors will be awarded by college to students with a calculated grade point average equal to the next highest 5%.

  • Due to the discrepancy in size of the August graduating class compared to the May and December classes, eligibility for Latin Honors for August will be based on the calculated grade point average cutoffs for the preceding May class.

  • No student with a calculated grade point average of less than 3.500 will be considered for Latin Honors.
