The History of the Sport Business Association

As the Sport Management Program at Towson University grew into an active major of over 300 students, there soon came a need for students to take their classroom learning and apply it in a real world setting. Under the guidance of faculty member Dr. Paul Downing, the Sport Management Club was created in the fall of 2002. The aim of this organization was to enhance the educational experience of Towson University Sport Management students. This was to be done through attending conferences, engaging with professionals in the industry and participating in community service. After the hard work of former presidents Timothy Caufield '03 and Timothy Davis '04, the Sport Management Club became an important part of the Towson University Experience.

In the fall of 2005, the Sport Management Club experienced significant changes in its development. Under the guidance of new advisors Dr. Joshua Newman and Dr. Jessica Braunstein and student leaders Adam Beissel '07, Chris Law '07, and Christopher Younes '08, the Sport Management Club adopted a new name and mission. The Sport Business Association has become the must-join student organization not just for sport management students, but for any student on Towson's campus who seeks a career in the Sport Business Industry. With the help of a bi-weekly speaker series and an increased emphasis on community service, the Sport Business Association has become a highly structured organization that offers a variety of experiences for many Towson students. As the program continues to grow, more resources and opportunities will be offered to Towson students through further development of the Sport Business Association.
