Counseling Assistant
Description
The student interns for this position will work independently as well with one of our counselors during the three stages of
client interaction with the SBDC:
- Pre-assessment to determine where client should be, i.e. training, one-on-one counseling, referral elsewhere.
- Counseling services, i.e. research, development of financial projections.
- Post closing survey of clients - 60 and 90 day intervals
In order for the intern to effectively assist an SBDC counselor, a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 30 hours a week of
student intern time would be required. Considering the constraints on each student’s time, there could be more than one
intern assigned to a location.
Student Intern Task
- Selected co-counseling with SBDC counselor
- Development of financial projections
- Marketing research for business plans and loan packages
- Assist with development of success stories
- Mini-training of clients on how to use Internet for research
- Assist with monthly report documentation
- Client follow-up on closed cases: economic impact survey
- Courtesy calls to clients to be closed out after 60 days with no client interaction
- Assistance with development of resources and partners
- Assist Counselors with case management
Required Skills and Experience
- Accessing Internet.
- Microsoft Office Word for various administrative documents.
- Microsoft Office Access for database development and manipulation.
- Microsoft Office Excel for financial spreadsheet development.
- Research via Internet and libraries
