MEMORANDUM Date: June 26, 2002 The University Senate Executive Committee met in session with other members of the Senate on Monday, June 24, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in Administration Room 307. In attendance were: Norma Holter, Chairperson; Stuart Stein, Assistant Chairperson; James Anthony, Secretary; Deborah Berlanstein, Member-at-Large; Tim Sullivan; and Rose Christian; Interim President Jones; and Interim Provost Leather. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Holter at 10:30 a.m. and the agenda was approved without change. NEW BUSINESS Professor Sullivan moved and Ms. Berlanstein seconded a motion: To approve a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry (Motion 01/02-21.) Dean Intemann (CSM) and Professor Milio spoke to the motion. Interim Provost Leather noted that we now have to justify the statement "No new funds needed for the program." There was also some discussion regarding the wording of the requirement of courses to be taken at the University of Baltimore. The question was called and the motion passed 5/0/0. It was decided to skip to the third item of the agenda. Professor Sullivan moved, Professor Stein seconded a motion: To approve a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Family Studies (Motion 01/02-23.) Associate Dean Shirley (College of Graduate Education and Research) and Professor Eskow spoke to the motion. There was some discussion as to whether the proposal needs to go off campus for approval. The motion was amended as follows: To approve a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Family Studies pending resolution of issues of formatting and presentation. The question was called and the motion passed 5/0/0. Professor Anthony moved, Professor Stein seconded a motion: To approve a waiver in the General Education category IIA2 course requirements (Motion 01/02-22.) There was some discussion about the circumstances creating the problem of not having enough courses and/or sections of courses in this category. It was agreed that solution to the problem was a longer- range issue. The motion was amended to read: To approve a waiver in the General Education category IIA2 course requirements through academic year 2003-04. The question was called and the motion passed 5/0/0. Chairperson Holter thanked both Professors Christian and Stein for their work on the Senate since they are not returning to the University Senate next year.
