Mission Statement
The mission of the Legislative Affairs Committee (LAC) is to ensure that the Towson undergraduate population’s voice, concerns, and needs are effectively relayed to the policy makers at the local, state, and federal levels of government. While the committee’s main focus is higher education policy and issues pertinent to the University System of Maryland, LAC will be have interest in issues that affect Towson students now and in the future.
Committee Meeting Times
The Committee will meet on Fridays at 2:30 p.m. at a biweekly basis. The purpose of the committee meetings is to delegate responsibilities, receive feedback on initiatives, and brainstorm and strategize on how to strengthen LAC’s goals and initiatives.
Current Projects
Increasing student voice in Annapolis-One of LAC’s goals is to increase the committee’s presence in Annapolis by testifying on legislation that the SGA or LAC members feel strongly about. It’s vital that Towson University students and administrators increase their presence in the state’s capital as Towson University receives low funding compared to other higher education institutions.
Involvement in local issues- The Legislative Affairs Committee recognizes that it is not only legislation in Annapolis that effects Towson students. Therefore, LAC will be increasing the student voice here in the community as well, in regards to local legislation.
