Randol Contreras came to Towson University from New York City in August 2007. A Bronx native, he has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in a South Bronx neighborhood, researching Latino drug robbers or “stickup kids.” Unlike typical street robbers, these men organized to rob drug dealers storing large quantities of heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and cash. His teaching interests are urban drug markets, race and crime, and ethnography. Currently, he is completing his Ph.D. in Sociology at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
