Scholarships for those interested in active competition on the team are available in various amounts for those with experience. Amounts for scholarships vary based on a student's academic performance, experience level, economic need, and other factors. Although participation on the team is open to all Towson students, most of those students receiving scholarships must have at least one year of competitive policy, Karl Popper or Lincoln-Douglas debate experience upon entry into the program and are expected to make speech and debate a major focus of their college experiences. MAJOR SCHOLARSHIPS URBAN DEBATE LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP This award is specifically for graduating seniors of the Baltimore Urban Debate League. The scholarship is for four years of study and covers tuition and fees at Towson, and a $500 book award. INTERNATIONAL DEBATE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is specifically for international students that want to study at Towson and participate on the team. The award covers tuition, fees, room and board for four years of study. The application for all scholarships is available for download here in a Microsoft Word document. All instructions for filling out the application, essays, and letters of recommendation are discussed in that material. Students need to speak to references about letters of recommendation early in the process to insure that they arrive by the deadline. This year our scholarship committee has adopted a new process. We will be accepting applications for both the International Debate Scholarship and the Urban Debate League Scholarship until we have thirty applicants in each pool or March 1, 2008, whichever comes first. Students can check this web page to be alerted on how many scholarship applications we have received in each pool. As of October 24, 2007 we are still accepting applications. Please email the application and all materials (in MS Word for Office 2003) to: eskinner@towson.edu. Professor Skinner will confirm receipt of each part of your application. References should e-mail their letters directly to her. You can also send in your application by mail to this address. Elizabeth Skinner You can also consult coach Chris Baron baron@budl.org for any question you may have. Students are also advised to begin the process of applying for admission to Towson University if they are considering the Towson debate scholarships. Towson's deadline for applications for domestic students is December 1, 2007. You can go directly to the admissions webpage and apply online. Towson's deadline for applications for international students is June 1, 2008. For more information and to be sent an application, please click here. The application process for admission to the university is separate from the application process for scholarships through the speech and debate program.
