Pawprints Collegiate Readership Program
Copies of the New York Times, USA Today and Baltimore Sun are delivered to nine campus locations Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters. As part of the Pawprints Collegiate Readership program, monthly New York Times Talk Lunches occur throughout the year in which students, faculty and staff gather to discuss current events over newspaper articles and free pizza.
Students, faculty and staff have complete access to all three newspapers online:
Professors are encouraged to integrate one or all of the newspapers into their course curriculum however they see fit. Faculty who specifically include the New York Times in their course syllabus receive free home delivery of the New York Times Monday through Friday during the semester.
Participating faculty have numerous resources available to them as well as opportunities to engage students outside of the classroom through the New York Times Talk Lunch program.
Benefits
Promoting civic engagement is a university priority that is captured in Towson University's strategic plan. Pawprints, the campus newspaper readership program, promotes civically engaged students at Towson as it:
- Encourages critical thinking
- Promotes global awareness
- Cultivates social responsibility
- Brings relevancy into the classroom
- Fosters serendipitous learning
Integration of newspapers into course curricula allows for discussion and reflection on topics that have direct impact on the lives of students today — from social issues and new technology to the global economy and career opportunities.
