Service-Learning

Information for Students

Service-learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. Reflection and reciprocity are key concepts of service-learning. Students learn through service and community engagement!

What is the difference between service-learning and community service?

Community service is any activity ranging from a one-time volunteer experience to a long term commitment in the community resulting in a positive contribution to the recipient(s) of the service. Community service is not connected to a class. Service-learning intentionally connects academic and civic objectives with community service by incorporating service in an academic course. Service projects are used to reinforce learning.
