International Student Exchange

How to apply to participate in the TU Exchange Program

The TU Student Exchange Program is only open to students currently enrolled at one of our Exchange Partner institutions. Contact your home institution's Study Abroad Office to find out if you are eligible to participate. Once your home institution has approved your eligibilty for the TU Student Exchange Program, you can begin the application process.

Submit the following items to the Study Abroad or Exchange Coordinator at your home institution who will forward them to our office:

  • Official Academic Record/Transcript of your courses from your home institution.
  • Proof of English language proficiency if English is not your native language (TOEFL or IELTS Documentation). Kansai Gaidai and Helia students are exempt from this requirement. See below for details.
  • Statement of Financial Ability (Obtain two copies of this form or documentation. Submit one original with your application. Keep the second original for your visa application). You must show proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while studying in the United States. Click here for the required amounts.
  • Statement of Financial Willingness (Complete two copies of this form. Submit one original with your application. Keep the second original for your visa application). You must show proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while studying in the United States. Click here for the required amounts.
  • Photocopy of the biographical information page of your passport (if available) at time of application.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
Spring: October 15
Fall/Academic Year: May 15

English Language Proficiency

Kansai Gaidai and Helia students are exempt from this requirement.

The English language proficiency requirement can be satisfied through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 for paper-based (PBT) or 173 for computer-based (CBT) or 61 for Internet-based (IBT) is required for all non-native English speakers. Students will also be required to take a placement exam upon arrival and may be asked to enroll in an ESOL class based on the result of the exam.

Applicants who have completed the IELTS must score at least a six (6.) IELTS is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations. For more information, visit their Web site at www.ielts.org.
