International Programs

International Student Exchange

Housing

Housing costs are not covered by the TU Partner Exchange agreement. Both on and off-campus options are available to exchange students although on-campus housing in the TU International House is highly recommended.

On-Campus Housing

On-campus housing is the most convenient option for visiting exchange students. Living on-campus allows for more interaction with US and other international students and easy access to activities and events. International students who selct on-campus housing will be placed in the Global Village at the Residence Tower unless otherwise notified.

The Global Village is a community for both domestic and international students attending Towson University. Students living in this community will have the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures and countries in a variety of ways including special annual events, international roommate, and programming. Accommodation in the Global Village also offers more kitchen space than the average TU residence hall.

Welcome packages are available for purchase during check-in. Packages cost $25 and include fitted bed sheets, a blanket, a pillow case, a flashlight, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and a toothbrush.

Meal Plans

Students who do choose to live on-campus must also purchase a meal plan. Meals are not covered by the TU Partner Exchange agreement but must be purchased as part of the on-campus option. Students will be automatically enrolled in the 10 meals per week plan but may upgrade upon arrival. Meal plan charges will be billed to the student's TU account and must be paid upon arrival. Meal plans are valid during the regular semester only.

Please note that the Housing Contract does not include Minimester (winter break between the fall and spring terms) or summer. International students studying at Towson for the full academic year may stay in their room in the Residence Tower over the winter break for an additional fee (approximately $150).

Students who want to live on-campus should submit the following forms to the TU Study Abroad Office:

Application Deadlines

Spring: NOVEMBER 15
Fall/Academic Year: MAY 1

A deposit of $350 is required at the time of application to be paid by international money order or credit card using the Housing Deposit Form. At the end of the first semester, the $350 deposit will be credited to your TU student account for second semester housing charges.

Maintenance charges will be applied to your student account if the room is not maintained according to the housing contract. When you leave Towson University, any credit balance on your account will be refunded to you.

Off-Campus Housing

Students wishing to live off-campus are responsible for securing their own housing and making payments according to the rental agreement.

The TU Office of Student Activities offers a free off-campus housing information service (a comprehensive list of available off-campus housing) for students seeking places to live. They also provide a listing of apartment complexes in Baltimore. Towson University does not screen, qualify, verify or otherwise accept responsibility for listings provided through this free service. Go to the Housing and Residence Life website to search the listings.
