Study Abroad Short-term Program Pre-departure Information for Students
ACADEMIC AND BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
A short-term faculty-led study abroad program falls under the jurisdiction of all regularly meeting Towson University classes. As such, you are subject to following the same academic regulations as if you were taking the class on campus.
In addition, because the program inherently features significant out of class activities and experiences, these are also considered part of the academic nature of the class, as important as attending lectures.
Don’t forget, at all times, including your free time, you will be representing TU and the U.S. in general. You should conduct yourselves in a manner that you would not be embarrassed or ashamed to read about in the Towerlight, or a major newspaper.
- Attendance at all program activities is required, including lectures, class time, and scheduled excursions.
- Students must be on-time for all program activities.
- If a student's behavior is deemed inappropriate or disruptive to the group by the faculty director, the student may be dismissed from the program and will receive no academic credit. Students dismissed from the program for behavioral issues will not receive a refund and will need to make their own arrangements for returning home.
- Notify the faculty director if you will be traveling during your free time
- Avoid 'risky' activities such as bungee jumping; participating in political demonstrations; scuba diving; renting and operating motor vehicles of any type; solitary travel.
