Jane Austen's England

January 3 - 18, 2009

Explore the life and literature of Jane Austen with Towson University in January 2009. The program includes time spent in London, Plymouth, Oxford, Bath and other spots associated with Jane Austen and her novels. Students will see first-hand the part of England made so famous in Austen's novels and the films based on them. Students will read Austen's major novels, keep a travel log and write a research paper due by mid-March.

The trip will begin and end in London, where students will have a few days to visit museums and places of interest and to attend theater performances at The Globe, The National Theater, or any of the many theaters in the West End.

Instructor: Carol Pippen, Ph.D, Towson University English Department

Course: ENGL 494: Jane Austen's England (3 credits). Women's Studies majors may earn credit for ENGL 469 instead of ENGL 494.

Cost:*$3,990 includes roundtrip airfare, housing, (breakfast included most days), health insurance, and a London bus/metro travel pass. Additional costs include $150 study abroad fee, meals and personal expenses.

*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Application Deadline: OCTOBER 15, 2008. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.

Application Process: Fill out an application (PDF) and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $250 deposit required at time of application.

Non-TU students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application (PDF) Non-TU graduate students must also submit an Application for Graduate School (PDF) .
