Study Abroad

TU United International College Exchange, Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China

United International College (UIC) - China's first independent liberal arts college - is home to approximately 4,000 students from countries around the world. 45% of the faculty are from abroad and all courses are taught in English. Many of UIC's students study abroad at least once during their academic career.

A semester or year at UIC offers many opportunities for cultural immersion. Exchange students are assigned a student buddy during orientation week and local students are available to provide tutoring in the Chinese language. In addition, UIC has approximately 40 student clubs and associations including an International Student Club that organizes events and provides informal opportunities for cultural exchange. Exchange students can also participate in experiential education activities as well as optional excursions organized by the College.

Location: UIC is located in the city of Zhuhai in the south of China in Guangdong Province, home to approximately 1.5 million residents. Located a short ferry ride from Hong Kong and adjacent to Macau, students can arrive to Zhuhai via a direct ferry from Hong Kong airport. Zhuhai provides easy bus connections to neighboring areas such as Guangzhou.

Academic Information: 15 - 18 U.S. credits (5-6 courses) per semester. AACSB accredited. TU students may receive Honors College credit for their study abroad experience.

Language of Instruction: English (except for foreign language courses).

Dates:
Fall: September - January
Spring: February - June

Housing Options: On-campus university housing. Rooms are double occupancy and all exchange students are paired with a Chinese roommate. Weekend homestays within Guangdong Province are also available to exchange students.

Cost: TU tuition and fees. Additional costs include airfare, meals, housing, visa and passport fees, $190 health insurance fee, personal expenses, and a $300 study abroad fee. Includes day trips, with weekend excursions available for a nominal fee. TU Tuition remission can be applied.

Eligibility: Student must be a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student at TU with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Sophomore/Junior/Senior status.

Application Process: Fill out the application and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $100 exchange application fee.
