International Education Week

November 16 - 20, 2009

International Education Week (IEW) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and is observed across the United States and in over 100 countries worldwide (Official IEW 2009 website). IEW is an opportunity for Towson students, faculty and staff to better understand cultural differences and gain a new perspective of the world! Events are open to all. Join us for free refreshments and the Brazilian movie about Dora, a school teacher who writes letters for the illiterate at the Rio de Janeiro central station. She is bitter about life and does not like most of her customers, to the point where she does not send their letters at all. However, over time, she feels it’s her responsibility to help 9 year-old Josue find his father after his mother dies in a bus accident outside of the central station. They travel through Brazil’s remote Northeast in search of his father.

Scavenger Hunt

Meet in front of Paws in the University Union

Open to everyone
Search the TU campus for international items in teams of 2-4. Team registration is first come first serve so register in advance by emailing peeradvisor@towson.edu by November 17 . Prizes will be awarded to the team with the highest score. Afterwards all participants who purchase a grill item at Paws will get a free soda.

Nazario is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who chronicles the struggles of a Honduran boy who travels to the US in search of his mother. The presentation will include a discussion of the situation of Central American immigrants in Maryland and offer ideas for becoming involved in helping Central American children who attempt to immigrate to the US.
