Founded in 1989, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is a public institution that has achieved a reputation for academic and research excellence as well as one of innovation and internationalization. With a student population of approximately 18,000, the University has partnerships with more than 200 universities in 30 different countries and welcomes approximately 900 international students from around the world each year.
Carlos III is located in Getafe, a suburb of Madrid - the capital and geographic center of Spain. With a population of 3 million, it is the largest city in Spain and the third largest city in the European Union. Madrid's vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere uniquely combines the old and the new. From modern high-rise apartments and bustling commercial zones to picturesque neighborhoods with quaint cafes, Madrid is a modern-day city steeped in history.
Academic Information: 12 - 15 U.S. credits (24 ECTS minimum) per semester. TU students may receive Honors College credit for their study abroad experience.
Language of Instruction: English and Spanish. Students must have completed 4+ semesters of college level Spanish (advanced intermediate level) to enroll in non-language courses taught in Spanish.
Dates: Spring: January - May Fall: September - January
Cost: TU tuition and fees. Additional costs include
airfare, housing, meals, $190 health insurance fee, personal expenses, and a $300 study abroad fee.
Students taking a Spanish language course (optional) will be charged an additional fee (approx. $300). Tuition remission can be applied (to regular university courses only, not Spanish language courses).
Eligibility: Student must be a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student at TU with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Sophomore/Junior/Senior status.
Application Process: Fill out the application and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $100 exchange application fee.
