Set Design:
Daniel Ettinger, the set designer for Alchemy/Blues,
started his work on this production with careful text
analysis and visual research. Based upon the insight
he gained from his analysis and research, he developed a sense
of the texture and movement
that would inform his design choices. Ettinger's ideas about
the environment needed for this production are manifest in the
model he created of his set design. This design makes use of
such specific scenic elements as vertical fabric hangings, an oversized moon
and a mobile house to convey
the major images of the play.
