Theatre has long been an integral part of Towson University’s educational legacy. From the student theatre group The Glen Players, which began early in the twentieth century, to the Department of Theatre Arts, formed by Dr. C. Richard Gillespie in the 1960s, Towson University theatre students have gone on to excel in a variety of professions, and to make their mark on local, national and international theatre. In 1983, the department gave its first honored alumnus award to John Glover, who was also the first student to receive a degree in theatre from Towson University. Glover was recognized for an acting career that would eventually include a Tony award and numerous prominent roles on stage and screen. Each year since then, we have honored an outstanding graduate of our program for his or her professional achievements. Please see below for more on our decades of outstanding graduates.
