Welcome back!  We look forward to serving you in our new facility.  The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) is in a new location to better serve you, with a variety of learning assistance services to support all students.  Our centralized space should be more appealing.  We hope to attract more students and encourage past patrons to visit often.  Tutorial services will begin after add/drop and our initial study skills workshop will be held the first week of classes.  If you need help in a subject, remember to request assistance early and often.  Should you enjoy sharing your academic abilities with your peers, we also offer opportunities to tutor most general education courses.

When a student experiences difficulties, the course instructor is the primary resource available.  Sometimes additional assistance is needed.  The AAC support network is that secondary resource for students.  The AAC has a dedicated professional staff in addition to wonderful student staff.  Tutorial services are provided free of charge on an individual, group, or drop-in basis.  Tutors are current students who are trained through our internationally recognized CRLA certified program.  The certification process sets a standard of skills and training for tutors.

As students adjust to the transition of campus life, we support them through our academic study skills workshops.  These lunchtime and evening sessions are held in locations across campus.  Various topics are offered, such as time management, learning styles, note-taking, exam preparation and public speaking techniques.  Many of our students are administered a web-based learning styles inventory, which aids us in meeting the individualized needs of freshmen and transfer students.   We work closely with  university faculty and advisors to assure that students have an academically successful college experience.

Our ultimate goal is to facilitate a community of learners.  I invite you to contact our center.  I am confident that our services can provide you with successful independent learner strategies.

The Academic Achievement Center is a place where all Towson University students can receive assistance in achieving their academic goals.  For more information about our mission and history, click here.
