President of Towson University
USM Chancellor William Kirwan appointed Maravene S. Loeschke as Towson University’s 13th president in January 2012. She is the institution’s first alumni president. A Baltimore native, Dr. Loeschke spent more than three decades at Towson University climbing the faculty ranks and ultimately became the dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication before leaving in 2002 to serve as provost of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and president of Mansfield University in 2006.
Throughout her career, Dr. Loeschke has focused her leadership on the development of students, faculty, and staff. She has earned a reputation for advancing excellence on campuses as well as developing mutually beneficial partnerships between universities and their greater communities.
Dr. Loeshcke holds a master’s in education and a bachelor’s degree in theatre and English from Towson University. She also holds a doctorate in philosophy from the Union Institute in Cincinnati.
