Research and Professional Interests
I specialize in American politics, with emphases on political parties, voting behavior and public opinion, campaigns, and the influences of religion, class, and race on politics. One ongoing research project of mine deals with the effects of the personal religious affiliations of U.S. senators on the representation of their constituents. Another project investigates the political behavior of the white working class. In addition to these research interests, I enjoy teaching research methods and I have also taught a course on inequality that incorporates seasons of the HBO series The Wire. I completed my B.A. at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2003, and finished my Ph.D. at University of Maryland, College Park in 2010. My research has appeared in outlets such as Legislative Studies Quarterly, State Politics & Policy Quarterly, Political Geography, and the Oxford Handbook of Religion and American Politics.
