Research and Professional Interests

I specialize in American politics, with emphases on political parties, voting behavior and public opinion, campaigns, and the influences of religion, class, and race on politics. One ongoing research project deals with the effects of the personal religious affiliations of U.S. senators on the representation of their constituents. I also enjoy teaching courses on research methods, religion and politics, and a service-learning course on inequality that incorporates seasons of the HBO series The Wire and requires students to engage in community service in a disadvantaged neighborhood in East Baltimore. I completed my B.A. at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2003, and finished my Ph.D. at University of Maryland, College Park in 2010. My research has appeared in outlets such as Legislative Studies Quarterly, State Politics & Policy Quarterly, Political Geography, and the Oxford Handbook of Religion and American Politics.
