LIFEWORx Medical Fitness Program

The LIFEWORx Medical Fitness Program identifies and utilizes an individual's unique medical profile.  This enables our exercise physiologists to design a dynamic, safe, and medically supervised fitness program, a necessary component to achieving optimal health and preventing and/or treating disease.  Success is significantly enhanced through medical supervision and clinical integration which allows our professional clinical staff to concentrate on producing positive client outcomes.

You do not have to have existing, documented disease to join the LIFEWORx Medical Fitness Program.  If you have risk factors for any of the following diseases/conditions, you already qualify.  These diseases/conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Heart Disease, Vascular Disease, and Stroke
  • Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome
  • Obesity
  • Arthritis and Chronic Pain
  • Pulmonary Disease
  • Orthopedic and/or Neurologic Problems
  • Cancer
  • Pregnancy

A physician referral is required to join the program and can be obtained by contacting the Wellness Center.

Comprehensive Cancer Wellness Program

 

The Comprehensive Cancer Wellness Program is a joint initiative from the Towson University Wellness Center, Towson University Nursing Department, and the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.  This free, 12-week program is an outreach initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for patients undergoing active treatment for cancer in the Towson, MD area. 

Experts from all of the involved organizations will offer guidance related to exercise, nutrition, and emotional support.  All sessions will be located at the Towson University Wellness Center on Towson University’s metropolitan campus.  The program mirrors the Towson University academic calendar, and will begin Monday, February 6th, 2012 and end on Friday, May 4th, 2012. 

Requirements:

  • Currently in active cancer treatment as of the first day of the program. (February 6, 2012)
  • Submit physician’s clearance form prior to start date.
  • Schedule and complete initial consultation prior too start date.
  • Be motivated and committed to participating in the entire 12-week program.

 Benefits:

  • Exercise training and guidance from Towson University Wellness Center staff and volunteers.  Exercise sessions take place 2-3 times weekly. Access to exercise equipment, fitness classes, and personal training is completely free of charge.
  • Nutrition education from the Towson University Wellness Center staff is also available.  A total of three group sessions will be offered throughout the program as well as individual consultations which are encouraged.
  • Emotional support provided by Ulman Cancer Fund Patient Navigator and Towson University Nursing Department faculty.  There will be a total of four group sessions during the program, but individual consultations are available.
