The Spring 2009 Forum provided an arena for science and mathematics teachers, students interested in careers in science and mathematics, and scientists and mathematicians from academia and industry to meet, network, and hear about the research of nationally known scientists and mathematicians. It is also a gathering in which we can all learn about the varied career paths of women scientists and mathematicians and consider some of the issues involved in the decision to enter the discipline. We had a very exciting line-up of speakers this year. Dr. Phoebe Leboy (AWIS President and Professor, University of Pennsylvania) will speak abut "Careers in Science ... and the Choices Women Scientists Make." Dr. Ruth Guyer (Professor, Haverford University) will discuss "The Juggler's Challenge: Carving Out an Interesting Life of Work, Family, Bioethics, Science Communication and Teaching." Finally, Dr. Karen Nelson (Director of Human Microbiology and Metagenomics, J. Craig Venter Institute) will discuss her "Adventures in Genomics."
