The Spring 2014 Forum provided an arena for science and mathematics teachers, students interested in careers in science and mathematics, and scientists and mathematicians from academia and industry to meet, network, and hear about the research of nationally known scientists and mathematicians. It was also a gathering in which we all learned about the varied career paths of women scientists and mathematicians and consider some of the issues involved in the decision to enter the discipline.
We had a very exciting line-up of speakers this year. Sherita Golden (Hugh P. McCormick Family Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) spoke about "My Scientific Journey: A Marriage of Epidemiology, Molecular Endocrinology, and Diabetes." Michelle L. Thaller (Assistant Director of Science for Communications, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) discussed "Living in a Big Universe." And then Dr. Allison N. Wack (Associate Veterinarian, The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore) spoke about "The Roles of the Veterinarian in the Modern Zoo."
