What it's like being a WMJF member
Many potential members ask questions concerning being a WMJF member.
Here's a list of some of the most frequently asked questions:
- Do you have to be an EMF/Mass Comm major to join?
- The simple answer is no. WMJF is happy to welcome any and all
majors. It is true that EMF and Mass Comm majors have the
opportunity to receive credits for working at WMJF, but other majors
will still have a great time learning about television and helping
to produce the WMJF shows.
- I don't know anything about television production, can I still be
a member?
- Of course! Many of our current e-board members and producers
came into the station knowing little to nothing about television
production, but other members taught them everything they needed to
know and we'll do the same for you. Anything you need to learn or
want to learn is available to you. All you need to do is ask and
someone will be more than happy to help.
- How much time do I need to work at the station?
- You can devote as little or as much time to this station as
you'd like. Some of our members work on one show and come in for
about one hour a week, while others spend most of their free time
here and work on six or seven shows. With 14 shows on the air this
semester, it's really easy to find a show that fits your schedule.
- I heard that your station collects dues, is this true and if
so...why?
- Yes, we do collect dues, but it all goes towards a good cause,
the upkeep of the station. Dues money goes towards, some smaller
equipment, tapes, paper, ink cartridges, repairs, our end of the
year gala, and other assorted things. This money does not go to pay
our executive board and is not used to buy frivolous things.
- Though, for your dues you will get the following
- A free t-shirt
- An invitation to our annual gala in April/May
- Access to all of our equipment and office space
